AFRICAN leaders meeting under African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) have committed to mobilizing resources and aligning efforts to implement over 300 priority projects under Agenda 2063.
At a high-level AUDA-NEPAD coordination meeting held alongside the African Union Summit, leaders from across the continent pledged to forge transformative partnerships and pursue joint strategies for resource mobilization, aimed at accelerating the implementation of Agenda 2063.
The meeting, which carried the theme “PAMOJA – Working Together to Ignite Regional Integration,” was officially opened by Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission. Discussions centered on the need for unified efforts to improve efficiency, build capacity, and engage the African diaspora in the continent’s development agenda.
Attendees included AUDA-NEPAD CEO Nardos Bekele-Thomas and representatives from African Union institutions and Regional Economic Communities (RECs).
They emphasized the importance of shifting from rhetoric and frequent meetings to action-oriented initiatives that yield tangible results.
Among the priorities highlighted were the harmonization of continental strategies on industrial development, digital transformation, climate change response, and promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
The leaders also stressed the need to leverage domestic resources, strengthen private sector participation, and empower women as essential drivers of sustainable growth. They affirmed that solving Africa’s challenges must primarily be the responsibility of Africans themselves.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, the African Union’s Special Envoy for Women, Peace, and Security, urged member states to sign and ratify the Treaty on the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls.
The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to deepen existing partnerships and work toward a financially self-reliant, integrated, and prosperous Africa in line with the aspirations of Agenda 2063.
