SPECIALISTS at the Benjamin Mkapa Zonal Referral Hospital (BMH) in Dodoma have successfully conducted a delicate brain surgery and removed a large tumour, saving the life of a critically ill patient.
The breakthrough procedure was announced by Dr Maxigama Ndosi, a specialist in neurosurgery and nervous system disorders during a press briefing held at the hospital yesterday.
According to Dr Ndosi, the patient was admitted in a severe condition and could not walk upon arrival. After comprehensive medical assessments, doctors discovered a massive tumour on the right side of the brain, approximately the size of an avocado.
“The patient came in with serious neurological symptoms and limited mobility. Our medical team carried out diagnostic imaging and identified a large tumour that required urgent surgical intervention to save the patient’s life,” said Dr Ndosi.
He commended the hospital’s multidisciplinary team for the successful operation, which involved high-level expertise and advanced medical equipment.
Dr Ndosi urged the public to seek medical care promptly when they experience unusual health symptoms, emphasizing that early diagnosis and treatment can prevent life-threatening complications.
Olivier Udoba, the patient’s mother, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the hospital and the medical team for the care provided to her daughter.
“I’m truly thankful to the doctors at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital for their excellent service and for saving my child’s life,” she said, visibly emotional.
Udoba revealed that her daughter began experiencing symptoms in September last year, including severe seizures. Initially, the family had planned to take her to a hospital in Dar es Salaam but due to the worsening condition, they decided to seek immediate help at BMH.
“We are so relieved that we brought her here when we did. The outcome has exceeded our expectations,” said Udoba.
