CHIEF Justice George Masaju has called on judges and other judicial officers across Tanzania to prepare for the implementation of the National Development Vision 2050, emphasizing adherence to the guidelines outlined for effective execution of the strategy.

Speaking during the closing session of a three-day judges’ meeting at the Judiciary Headquarters in Dodoma at the weekend, Masaju highlighted that the priority area of good governance and justice within the vision requires active participation from the judiciary to improve access to justice and institutional efficiency.

“I urge all of you to begin preparations for implementing this vision according to the prescribed guidelines. The Vision 2050 includes an implementation roadmap and it is imperative that we align our judicial work with its objectives,” he said.

He referenced page 63 of the document, which outlines a robust management system designed to enhance accountability, ensure competent oversight and encourage measurable outcomes. The CJ urged those who have not studied the document to do so immediately and integrate its principles into daily judicial operations.

Masaju stressed that Vision 2050 calls for a shift in mindset towards action and tangible results, rather than relying on promises. He reminded judges to uphold their oaths and administer justice in accordance with the constitution and other laws, emphasizing the judiciary’s ultimate authority in legal matters under Articles 4, 107A, and 107B of the constitution.

He encouraged judicial officers to view their role as a divine responsibility, citing religious references, and to maintain integrity, diligence, creativity and patriotism in executing their duties.

The meeting, attended by members of the Court of Appeal, the High Court, the judiciary registrars and management team members, provided an opportunity to share experiences, challenges, and achievements in judicial practice.

Resolutions from the session included enhancing leadership involvement in construction projects, strengthening mediation-based dispute resolution, ensuring timely payment of employee legal entitlements, and improving electronic case management system to be more user-friendly and efficient.

The CJ concluded by emphasizing that a well-functioning judiciary is crucial for national development and urged all judicial personnel to take responsibility for ensuring justice, accountability and transparency in alignment with Vision 2050’s objectives.
