MINISTER for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Mahmoud Thabit Kombo has begun an official visit to the United Kingdom to strengthen trade, investment, and climate cooperation, marking the first official visit by a Tanzanian Foreign Minister in 14 years.
The visit, which runs from 8–12 September 2025, will see Minister Kombo engage with senior UK government officials, parliamentarians, business leaders, and international organisations to deepen collaboration across trade, investment, climate, and shared prosperity.
Key events on the programme include a roundtable at London’s Guildhall on positioning Tanzania as a financial hub, and meetings with UK ministers including Lord Collins, UK Minister for Africa, Kerry McCarthy, UK Minister for Climate, and Kate Osamor MP, UK Trade Envoy to East Africa.
Minister Kombo will also engage with UK financial institutions, such as British International Investment and UK Export Finance, to expand trade finance, infrastructure investment, and capital flows into Tanzania. Discussions with the business and investor community will include a Clyde & Co. investor roundtable and a presentation on Manufacturing Africa’s report on value addition in critical minerals.
In addition, Minister Kombo will meet with multilateral organisations including the International Maritime Organization and the Commonwealth Secretary-General, reinforcing Tanzania’s role in global governance.
Speaking ahead of the visit, Minister Kombo said the trip “marks a renewed chapter in the longstanding friendship between Tanzania and the United Kingdom” and aims to unlock new opportunities in trade, investment, climate resilience, and innovation.
The visit comes at a time of growing economic opportunity in Tanzania, with the UK remaining a key partner. Through the UK-Tanzania Mutual Prosperity Partnership launched last year, both countries are working to drive inclusive growth, innovation, and job creation.
