FORMER Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam prof Rwekaza Mukandara has highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI), describing it as a powerful tool reshaping industries, redefining work and transforming education.

Prof. Mukandara made the remarks at the weekend in Dar es Salaam while officiating at the 10th graduation ceremony of the United African University of Tanzania (UAUT) where 30 graduands were awarded degrees.

He stressed that AI should not be viewed as a replacement for human creativity but as a partner that enhances human potential.

He noted that education goes beyond personal achievement and remains a cornerstone of national development, empowering individuals, strengthening communities and transforming societies.

Addressing the graduands, Prof. Mukandara urged them to see themselves as torchbearers of hope and agents of change, encouraging them to use technology ethically and compassionately to uplift others and contribute to Tanzania’s development.

The ceremony brought together graduands, parents, guardians, faculty members, university leaders and invited guests to celebrate academic achievement and service to society.

Prof. Mukandara also recognized the sacrifices of parents and guardians, praising their prayers, perseverance and unwavering support, which he said had contributed not only to their children’s success but also the nation.

He further commended academic staff for their dedication, mentorship and commitment to shaping future leaders.

UAUT Vice Chancellor Prof. Sung Kim congratulated the graduates and urged them to enter the world with gratitude, integrity and diligence.

He reminded them that success is rooted in grace, family support, national stability and faith, calling on graduates to give back to society.

Prof. Sung announced major infrastructure developments aimed at improving student welfare and expanding academic capacity.

These include the construction of new dormitories, a cafeteria, additional classrooms and faculty offices.
