TOP officials at the Ministry of Energy are working on greater participation from the private sector as success in the energy sector modernization drive requires joint efforts from all stakeholders.

Felchesmi Mramba, the permanent secretary, made this affirmation at a joint session with senior officials of the National Planning Commission (NPC), where the minister presented progress reports on various initiatives under implementation, including natural gas and petroleum development, clean cooking energy, electricity expansion, and renewable energy investments.

The ministry was executing several major projects designed to enhance power generation, transmission and access across the country, he said, pointing at the 400KV Chalinze–Dodoma transmission line, expected to be completed mid next year.

Once operational, it will significantly boost electricity reliability in Katavi, Kigoma regions that have long faced unstable power supply, he said, linking these projects with advancing Vision 2050 major target of raising annual electricity consumption to 3,000 kilowatt-hours per capita, an indicator of expanded electricity access and improved living standards.

“Our ambition is to make Tanzania a nation powered by reliable, affordable and clean energy, he said, demanding that there is greater collaboration with the commission in implementing strategic power and fuel supply projects, aligned with Vision 2050.

Dr Linda Ezekiel, the commission’s deputy executive secretary for performance management and evaluation led the NPC team, with the discussions focused on strengthening coordination and monitoring of flagship energy projects.

This will help to ensure the projects effectively contribute to national development goals, especially in promoting industrialization, economic growth and improved quality of life, the top civil servant asserted

For her part, the NPC team leader commended the ministry for its strong alignment with Vision 2050 priorities, noting that the energy sector remains central to achieving Tanzania’s aspiration of becoming a modern and competitive economy.

“Reliable energy is the foundation for industrial growth and social progress. The projects presented today show clear alignment with the vision of building an inclusive and sustainable economy,” she stated.

The commission was monitoring energy project implementation to ensure each initiative contributes directly to economic transformation, improved public welfare and environmental protection, she said.

The commission was committed to maintaining close working relations in planning, executing and evaluating energy programmes driving Tanzania towards realizing Vision 2050, she added.
