Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) employees in Dodoma Region have been urged to enhance professionalism, maintain integrity, and deliver high-quality customer service as part of efforts to achieve and surpass the agency’s revenue collection targets.
Pendolake Elisafi, TRA Dodoma regional manager made the call yesterday while opening a special regional management meeting held in the city over the weekend.
The meeting aimed at reviewing progress and developing new operational strategies for October 2025 to ensure the region meets its monthly revenue targets.
Elisafi emphasised that the success of TRA’s mission depends on the commitment and accountability of every staff member, regardless of rank or department. He reminded employees that taxpayers are not only the primary source of revenue but also key partners in national development.
“It is our duty to ensure that every taxpayer receives efficient and respectful service. When a businessperson seeks help or clarification, our officers must respond promptly and professionally. Each staff member has a role to play in improving service delivery,” Elisafi said.
He also encouraged a culture of constructive feedback and teamwork, urging employees to be open to correction whenever mistakes occur so that operations remain aligned with public service ethics, regulations, and national interests.
In his address, Elisafi conveyed congratulatory remarks from the TRA Commissioner General, Yusuph Mwenda, who commended the Dodoma team for exceeding their revenue targets for three consecutive months and setting a new performance record for the region.
“The Commissioner General recognises your hard work and discipline, which have led to record-breaking achievements. This momentum should inspire even greater commitment as we move into the final quarter of the year,” he noted.
The regional manager further challenged the management team to expand the tax base by identifying and formalising emerging business sectors instead of relying heavily on employment-based income taxes. He cited potential areas such as trade, real estate, construction, agriculture, and livestock production as sectors that could significantly contribute to sustainable revenue growth.
Elisafi explained that with proper coordination and close supervision, these sectors could provide new opportunities for broadening the tax net, improving compliance, and supporting the government’s development agenda.
He also urged tax officers to continue educating citizens on the importance of paying taxes voluntarily, saying that awareness and transparency are vital in building public trust and cooperation with TRA.
“When taxpayers understand how their contributions fund essential services like education, health, and infrastructure, they are more likely to comply willingly. Our role is to make that connection clear and ensure fairness in tax administration,” he said.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of a regional work plan outlining key priorities for the coming months, including improved revenue tracking systems, enhanced taxpayer outreach programmes, and stronger collaboration with local government authorities to address tax evasion and informal sector challenges.
Through these measures, TRA Dodoma aims to maintain its position as one of the country’s top-performing regions in tax collection and service excellence.
