THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved 11 candidates to contest for the parliamentary seat in Mtumba constituency, including former Dodoma City MP and Minister of Minerals, Antony Mavunde.
The Election Supervisor for Mtumba and Dodoma City constituencies, Advocate Cosmas Nsemwa, said the nomination exercise for parliamentary candidates in both constituencies was successfully completed.
“Today we conducted the nomination process for parliamentary candidates in the two constituencies of Mtumba and Dodoma City. In Mtumba, 15 collected nomination forms, 13 returned them, and 11 were endorsed. Two were not endorsed because they failed to meet the legal requirements set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” he said.
He added that in Dodoma City constituency, 14 collected nomination forms, 12 returned them, and seven were endorsed, while five were disqualified for failing to meet the set requirements.
“Therefore, so far, in both constituencies, we have a total of 18 candidates officially endorsed in Dodoma City Council,” he stated.
However, he explained that some of the reasons for disqualification included failure to fill in the declaration form committing to respect and uphold the 2025 election code of ethics, failure to pay the mandatory security fee of Sh. 50,000 as required by law, along with other legal shortcomings.
