As Zanzibar Presidential candidate for Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi is set to submit his nomination form on August 30, some citizens have stepped forward to contribute to the nomination costs.
The contributors include government drivers and technicians, as well as bodaboda and bajaji operators from South Pemba, who handed over the funds to Zanzibar’s Second Vice President Hemed Suleiman Abdulla at his office in Vuga Town, Zanzibar.
According to the Zanzibar Electoral Commission, the cost of submitting a nomination form for the presidency is 100,000/-while returning the form requires a payment of 2m/- for male candidates and 1m/- for female candidates.
Upon receiving the funds, Vice President Hemed Suleiman Abdulla praised the donors for supporting the candidate, who is also the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council.
Speaking at the event, Secretary of the CCM’s National Executive Committee Special department for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Khamis Mbeto Khamis, said the youth were inspired and motivated to fund Dr. Hussein Mwinyi’s nomination form due to the significant development work he has delivered to the people of Zanzibar.
Seif Said Msellem, Chairman of the Association of Bajaji and Bodaboda Operators in South Pemba, said their decision to fund Dr. Mwinyi’s presidential nomination was driven by his fulfillment of promises made during the 2020 election campaign, including formalizing bodaboda transport as an official business.
