AUTHORITIES in Ngorongoro District, Arusha Region have expanded efforts to provide clean and safe water to local communities by improving infrastructure.

Key developments include the construction of 300,000-litre water tank and installation of 30-kilometre water pipeline network to reach residents of Loliondo Town Council as well as neighbouring villages, including Lopoluni and Oldonyowasi.

Gerald Andrew, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) manager in Ngorongoro District, shared the updates during a recent media briefing on the project.

Andrew explained that the project had made considerable progress and is critical for the development of the local population, with the goal of increasing access to clean water by over 85 percent for residents of the affected areas.

The RUWASA manager confirmed that the project was at 90 percent and would significantly enhance the delivery of water services.

He also highlighted that the initiative aims to address the long-standing challenge of water scarcity, a persistent issue that had affected residents of Loliondo and surrounding villages for many years.

The project is being implemented through a partnership between the government and development partners from the United Arab Emirates, with the system expected to be fully operational upon completion.

“We anticipate the project will be completed soon, and it will help alleviate the water shortages residents have faced for years, as they were previously forced to walk long distances to access water,” Andrew said.

Once completed, the project will provide reliable access to clean and safe water close to residents’ homes, significantly improving their quality of lives.

He added: “The infrastructure project is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that essential public services are accessible to citizens in a timely and efficient manner, directly within their communities.”
