Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo has arrived in Beijing for a working visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and promoting investment cooperation between Tanzania and China.

Kombo touched down in the Chinese capital on June 9 and was received by senior official Xu Zhongsheng from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside Tanzania’s Ambassador to China, Khamis Mussa Omar.

While in China, the minister will lead Tanzania’s delegation to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Coordinators Meeting, scheduled for June 11 to 12, and the 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo taking place in Changsha from June 13 to 15.

On the sidelines of the FOCAC meeting, Kombo is expected to hold talks with China’s Foreign Minister and senior Communist Party official, Wang Yi. Their discussions will focus on boosting the long-standing strategic partnership between the two nations.

The minister and his delegation will also visit Sichuan and Shenzhen provinces for meetings with regional leaders and major Chinese firms involved in trade and investment. The visit is part of Tanzania’s broader agenda to attract Chinese companies to invest in key sectors of the economy.

In addition, Kombo will stop in Guangzhou to visit the Consulate Office of the United Republic of Tanzania and engage with members of the Tanzanian community living in the city.
