CCM presidential candidate in Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, hails tourism as the backbone of the islands’ economy, accounting for 30 percent of all government revenue

He made the remarks today, September 22, while addressing various groups, including entrepreneurs in the tourism industry, in Nungwi, North Unguja.

Dr. Mwinyi noted that the number of tourists visiting Zanzibar is rising rapidly, making the islands a major regional hub. Last month alone, 150,000 tourists arrived in Zanzibar.

He emphasized that the government’s goal is not only to attract tourists but also to ensure that tourism benefits all Zanzibaris, including service providers such as tour guides, fishermen, and farmers.

“That is what we mean by tourism for all—everyone should benefit from the sector. The government will continue to build the necessary infrastructure to enable people to operate in a reliable and supportive environment,” he said.
