DAR ES SALAAM Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has condemned the continued shortage and lack of improvement in Bus Rapid Project (BRT) buses, calling it sabotage against citizens and government efforts.
Speaking today July 24, 2025, during a visit to the Kimara BRT terminal , following public complaints, Chalamila said the situation has caused serious inconvenience to passengers and warned that the government will no longer tolerate the recurring negligence.
He said that since the launch of the BRT service nearly nine years ago, there have been no concrete efforts to expand or improve the fleet, a situation that has led to constant congestion and delays for thousands of daily commuters.
Chalamila questioned how a private individual could use the same car for nine consecutive years without replacing it—let alone public buses serving a large population.
“If someone cannot use one car for nine years without change, how do we expect buses transporting thousands of Tanzanians daily to operate in the same condition?” he said.
He added that if those responsible for managing the BRT system fail to take urgent and effective action, he will recommend stern measures, including their removal from office.
