CCM presidential candidate Samia Suluhu Hassan has pledged to implement initiatives and strategies aimed at uplifting individual incomes, promising a stronger blue economy, youth empowerment and national economic growth if re-elected.
Addressing thousands of supporters at a campaign rally in Nungwi, Unguja North, yesterday, Samia said the ruling party’s 2025–2030 manifesto puts citizens’ prosperity at the centre of its vision.
She noted that the next five years will focus on transforming household incomes by creating opportunities in fishing, tourism, trade, and entrepreneurship.
“Our mission is to build a self-reliant nation where every Tanzanian is able to generate income, improve their household, and prosper,” she said. “The blue economy, with its vast potential in deep-sea fishing, maritime transport, port development, and coastal tourism, will be the backbone of these efforts.”
Samia further projected that Tanzania’s economy is set to grow by 7 percent next year, a trend she said would be matched by Zanzibar’s performance. She stressed that growth must translate into real benefits for ordinary citizens, particularly youth and women.
According to her, the manifesto outlines several income-boosting measures, including affordable loans and cooperative training, development of modern business infrastructure, expansion of affordable housing, town beautification, and strengthening of the tourism industry to ensure sustainable job creation.
She reassured voters that the October 29 election will be peaceful and safe. “Nothing bad will happen on polling day. Go out, cast your vote, and return home peacefully. Your security is guaranteed,” she said.
On Union matters, Samia underscored her commitment to preserving Tanzania’s historic Union, calling it a source of peace, stability, and international recognition. “The Union is the foundation of our strength and we must safeguard it for the prosperity of future generations,” she emphasised.
The presidential candidate also pointed to achievements in the tourism sector, where Tanzania has surpassed its national target by attracting over 5 million visitors, noting that Zanzibar has contributed significantly to this milestone. “Tourism is flourishing, and with stronger partnerships and new investments, we will continue positioning Tanzania and Zanzibar as top global destinations,” she said.
Samia further praised Zanzibar President and CCM candidate Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi for spearheading inclusive development over the past five years, citing progress in housing, tourism, and social services. Dr Mwinyi, addressing the same rally, called for peace, unity, and reconciliation as a foundation for future prosperity.
“No country can move forward without peace. Our responsibility is to protect the Isles from division and keep working for inclusive growth,” he said, stressing that the next CCM manifesto will deepen achievements already made.
CCM Secretary General Dr Asha-Rose Migiro described Samia as a visionary leader, recalling her efforts to market Tanzania internationally through the Royal Tour documentary. She said CCM’s stewardship has strengthened the Union and ensured robust growth for Zanzibar’s economy.
Parliamentary aspirants also echoed the blue economy agenda. Nungwi aspirant Mdoe Haji Kombo urged that more opportunities be directed towards youth, women, and persons with disabilities to ensure equitable prosperity.
