PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has sworn in former IGP and ambassador Simon Sirro as the Regional Commissioner for Kigoma, describing the region as strategic and praising his strength and diplomatic experience.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for newly appointed leaders at Chamwino State House in Dodoma on June 28, 2025, President Samia said Kigoma’s location—bordering neighboring countries—calls for leadership that blends security and diplomacy.
“For Commander Sirro, Kigoma is a strategic region—it borders neighboring countries and has many pressing matters. So, we’ve taken you from your diplomatic post and placed you as a Regional Commissioner. Your experience in both policing and diplomacy makes you the right fit,” she said.
President Samia acknowledged that Sirro has already served the country extensively, including as Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Ambassador, but said she still sees him as energetic and capable of delivering in his new role.
“I know I’ve already utilized you a lot—as Ambassador, as IGP—but I still see your strength. Go and take charge of Kigoma Region,” she added.
She also praised Kheri James, who was among those sworn in, for his performance in Iringa and expressed confidence in his new role.
