PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to officially launch Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050 tomorrow in the capital city of Dodoma, at a high-level event that will bring together ambassadors from all accredited countries and international organisations.

The executive secretary of the National Planning Commission, Dr Fred Msemwa, told reporters yesterday that the implementation of the new Vision will commence on July 1, 2026, following the conclusion of the current Vision 2025 on June 30, 2026.

Dr Msemwa noted that unfinished priorities from Vision 2025 have been integrated into the new framework to ensure the country achieves its long-term development aspirations.

“The process of drafting Vision 2050 involved 12 key steps, including the preparation and endorsement of guidelines,” he said, adding that the exercise officially began on April 3, 2023.

Key activities included forming technical assessment teams, reviewing the performance of Vision 2025, and conducting extensive public consultations to gather views on what should be prioritised in the new Vision.

The Commission also drew insights from countries that have made significant development strides, such as Botswana, Morocco, Mauritius, South Africa, and Kenya in Africa, as well as China, Indonesia, South Korea, Singapore, and India in Asia

According to Dr Msemwa, more than 1.74 million Tanzanians participated in the consultation process, offering their views through various platforms including mobile phone surveys.

“This broad-based engagement and international benchmarking reflect our commitment to crafting an inclusive and ambitious national vision,” he said.

Deputy executive secretary Dr Mursali Milanzi noted that the groundwork for Vision 2050 began with a thorough review of the successes and gaps in implementing Vision 2025.

“Tanzanians were asked a fundamental question: What kind of country do you want Tanzania to be in the next 25 years? And the new Vision is a response to that national aspiration,” he said.
