THE High Court of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam Sub-Registry, is set to begin hearing an application for review filed by CHADEMA National Chairman Tundu Lissu today July 16, 2025.

Lissu is asking the court to declare that on June 6, 2025 (in case number 8606/2025 involving the publication of false information), Resident Magistrate Geoffrey Mhini made a unilateral decision allowing the prosecution to present some civilian witnesses to testify in secret.

He contends that such testimony would hinder his ability to fully understand the case, arguing that not seeing or knowing the witnesses would amount to an unfair trial.

Lissu was brought into the courtroom at around 9:15 a.m., where a dispute broke out between him, his lawyers, and prison officers.

He claimed that the officers attempted to seize some of his documents, prompting his legal team—led by Dr. Rugemeleza Nshala—to ask the court for clarification on whether the act was lawful.
