Chadema Vice Chairman John Heche addresses journalists in Dar es Salaam on the on-going court case filed by Zanzibar trustees against the party leadership.

A case filed by members of the Board of Trustees of the opposition party CHADEMA from Zanzibar is scheduled to be heard on July 10, 2025, at the High Court of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam Registry.

The petitioners include former CHADEMA Zanzibar Vice Chairman Said Issa Mohamed, former Deputy Chairman Ahmed Rashid Khamis, and Maulida Anna Komu.

They filed the case against the CHADEMA Board of Trustees, alleging that the party has systematically sidelined Zanzibar in its operations, including financial matters.

The hearing failed to proceed today before Judge Hamidu Mwanga and was adjourned by Registrar Aziza Mbage, citing that the judge was presiding over another case at the Mtwara High Court. The matter has now been rescheduled to July 10, 2025.

Previously, on June 10, 2025, the petitioners were granted a temporary injunction by the court, restraining CHADEMA from conducting any party-related activities until the main case is heard and determined.

Additionally, the court barred the party's Secretary General, its agents, and any supporters entrusted with running party affairs from engaging in any political activities until the case is concluded.

The court also ordered that all CHADEMA assets remain untouched pending the hearing and determination of the matter.
