SECOND Vice President of Zanzibar, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, has urged trained officers to practically apply the skills they acquired in their workplaces to bring positive transformation and achieve efficiency.

Hemed made the call at the weekend during the closing ceremony of the officer training for Prisons and the Fire and Rescue Force officers held at Hanyegwa Training College in Zanzibar.

He said that after completing the training, the expectation is for the officers to utilize their expertise by professionally managing their duties to accelerate achievement of effectiveness within their institutions.

Hemed encouraged the officers to further develop their military skills and civilian education to remain competent professionals who bring success in their work.

He emphasized that the primary role of any force is to maintain the security and peace of the nation and its citizens, and thus they must ensure these duties are carried out without hesitation or influence from any individual, group, or institution inside or outside the country.

Hemed urged the officers to recognize their high responsibility to abide by national laws, regulations, and permanent guidelines in executing their duties.

He also called upon the officers to uphold integrity in leadership, acknowledging that leadership is a trust, and they should support their subordinates by teaching ethics and fostering patriotism..

Minister of State in the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Special Departments, Massoud Ali Mohammed, called on the officers to prioritize the interests of the nation and the forces they serve while also serving the public with professionalism, efficiency and high discipline.

Commissioner of Zanzibar Correctional College, Khamis Bakari Kahamis, said the middle level leadership training which lasted six months was completed by 85 officers from the college and 69 from the Fire and Rescue Force.

Kahamis said the officers successfully completed courses that included administration and leadership, combat tactics, law, health and others, enabling them to work domestically and internationally in various roles including security.

Reading a statement on behalf of the graduates, Issa Choum Haji, said during the six-month period the training strengthened cooperation between the college and the Tanzania Fire and Rescue Force and built their capacity to perform their duties with integrity and strong patriotism.

He added that despite the significant achievements, they faced challenges such as poor road conditions around the training college as well as limited educational opportunities for other officers who need the same.
