AZANIA Academy's cricketers extended their winning streak in the recent 2025 TCA Dar U-17 League with a comprehensive 210-run victory over Kigamboni Academy at the Leaders Club venue in Dar es Salaam.
It was a third consecutive win for Azania Academy cricketers, propelling them to the top position in Group B of the league, with the best statistics in the 10-team showdown.
Azania Academy cricketers took the crease first in the encounter and exhibited their batting depth, scoring a hefty 246/1 in the scheduled 20 overs, marked by gallant batting by top-order cricketers.
A scintillating innings by the duo of Farhaan Mohamed and captain Rehaan Atif comfortably propelled the batting squad to the imposing total.
Opener Mohamed made a mockery of an early surge by Kigamboni Academy, which claimed the wicket of the fellow opener Ramadhan Abdul after two knocks, by staging a ruthless showing to eventually notch 102 runs not out at a strike rate of 170.00.
The in-form Atif laid his hands on the bat after the exit of Abdul and made matters worse for Kigamboni Academy- putting on an equally stellar innings that ended with the promising cricketer posting 120 runs not out, which included 17 boundaries.
Mohamed and Atif's batting exploits were further boosted by 24 extras that the Kigamboni Academy bowling unit had conceded.
Mussa Athuman, who grabbed the early wicket of Azania Academy's Abdul, was the bowler with a notable effort when Kigamboni Academy fielded.
Chasing a huge target of 247 runs happened to be a tall order for Kigamboni Academy cricketers, as they, in response, ended up with a paltry 36/10 in 12.5 overs.
None of the Kigamboni Academy players had managed a two-digit figure in what turned out to be a challenging attempt when it came to embarking on a successful pursuit of victory.
Tail-ender Elvin Charles garnered four runs not out to ultimately end up as the performer with the most runs, whereas team captain Haruna Bakari posted just two runs.
Johnson Sospeter commanded the best statistics for Azania Academy, hauling 3-5, and fellow bowlers Abdulrazak Dezo, Samir Abbas, and Shaban Jumanne were equally merciless to Kigamboni Academy.
Dezo ended up with 2-5, Abbas grabbed 2-1, and Jumanne wound up with 2-9 as the Azania Academy bowling unit easily dispatched Kigamboni Academy.
The commanding victory has Azania Academy still firmly holding on to the top place in Group B with the best Net Run Rate of 4.5032.
The Group B leaders and Future Force Academy, which is leading the rest of the pack in Group A, are the teams with an unbeaten run after three rounds of ties.
The national cricket body, TCA, is taking charge of the 2025 TCA Dar U-17 League, giving the participating junior cricketers a valuable avenue to gauge their skills and get competitive experience.
The 10 teams featuring in the TCA Dar U-17 League have been placed in groups A and B, taking part in 20-over encounters.
Group A contenders are Future Force Academy, Indian School, Annadil Burhani Academy, Kigamboni Academy, and Muhimbili Academy.
Azania Academy, KSIJ Cricket Academy, Delaware Academy, Chanika Boys, and Kitunda Academy make up Group B.
