ULUGURU Stars secured a thumping 109-run defeat of Kingalu Boys in th Morogoro Development League 2025-Men's tie played at the SUA venue in Morogoro last week.
An impressive 80 runs not out scored by Jaffari Kanyita anchored Uluguru Stars' innings as they garnered 188/3 in 20 overs having won the toss and chosen to bat. Kanyita was in the end the cricketer with the most significant contribution, with his 80 runs coming at a strike rate of 173.91.
January Joseph and Ibrahim Saidi, who opened the innings, were equally solid as Uluguru Stars took control of the innings to conclude with the convincing score. Joseph posted 34 runs at a strike rate of 161.90 and Saidi garnered 35 runs in his 25 knocks, pushing Uluguru Stars to 11 runs short of triple digits upon their exit after 8.3 overs. Ally Omary notched 19 runs to end up with two digits for the team.
The batting team's efforts to complete their innings with a bigger figure also garnered a boost of 20 extras that were leaked by Kingalu Boys. Kingalu Boys, facing a seemingly difficult challenge of reaching a tricky target set up by Uluguru Stars, did not have have the firepower, which could have helped it get down to a successful chase, losing steam with 79/10 in 19.4 overs.
Omary Kizulege, coming in at number four, put in the only meaningful effort with the bat for Kingalu Boys, ending four runs short of a half century at a strike rate of 97.87, as the other batsmen could not withstand Uluguru Stars' bowling charge.
Amani Steven, who opened the innings, chipped in with 11 runs to turn into the cricketer who also contributed two digits in his squad's vain attempt to come out victorious.
Omary Shabani ended up with 5-20 in 3.4 overs, January Joseph notched 2-15, and Kizito Shamte wounded up with 2-11 as the agile Uluguru Stars successfully tamed Kingalu Boys.
It was a second successive win for Uluguru Stars, who gallantly got their campaign in the showdown underway, defeating Moro Stars by six wickets on August 3.
