BUNDA Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (BUWSSA) soccer team in the Mara Region has received a timely morale boost as it gears up for the 2025 Maji Cup tournament.
The team’s preparation was strengthened by donations of sports gear, bottled water, and financial support from local development stakeholders in Bunda.
The donations were officially handed over during a brief ceremony held over the weekend, presided over by BUWSSA managing director Esther Gilyoma, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all contributors for their generous support.
“This year’s tournament is themed ‘Highlighting the Achievements of the Water Sector under the Leadership of the Sixth Phase Government,’ and we are proud to be part of this important initiative,” Gilyoma said.
She added: “We are deeply grateful to the stakeholders who stepped forward to support us. Their generosity goes beyond material support - it uplifts the team’s morale and underscores the power of unity and collaboration within the water sector.”
The Maji Cup 2025 officially kicked off on July 19 in Tanga City, bringing together teams from various zones under the national water and sanitation authorities. The competition aims to promote camaraderie, team spirit, and professional cooperation among sector employees nationwide.
Team captain George Milanzi expressed confidence in BUWSSA’s readiness for the tournament.
“Our team is representing the Lake Zone alongside a team from Mwanza. We’ve had solid preparation, and we’re entering the tournament with focus and determination,” he stated.
Milanzi emphasized the motivational impact of the community’s and t BUWSSA’s leadership support.
“This kind of backing pushes us to give our best on the pitch. It shows the community believes in us - and that fuels our desire to succeed,” he noted.
BUWSSA was scheduled to face the Korogwe Water Authority in their opening match yesterday. Milanzi voiced optimism about the team’s prospects.
“Our goal is clear: to win, reach the finals, and ultimately bring the Maji Cup trophy home to Bunda,” he affirmed.
The Maji Cup tournament will conclude on July 27, celebrating unity, service, and sporting excellence within Tanzania’s water sector.
