AS the Premier League enters Round 10, the battle for the Golden Boot has become one of the biggest talking points of the season.

With clubs pushing to establish dominance early, several players have stepped forward with impressive individual performances, setting the stage for a tightly contested race for the league’s top scorer award.

Leading the chart is JKT Tanzania’s young striker, Paul Peter Kasunda, whose early season form has taken the league by storm. The 21-year-old forward has netted five goals so far, contributing heavily to JKT Tanzania’s solid start to the campaign.

Kasunda (pictured) has been a standout performer in his club’s 10 matches, during which JKT have registered four wins, five draws, and only one loss, scoring a total of 12 goals nearly half of which have come from the young striker.

Kasunda’s goals have come in crucial moments. He first announced himself with a brilliant brace against Fountain Gate FC before following it up with a vital goal in JKT Tanzania’s 2–2 draw with Mbeya City. He then struck a dramatic 90th-minute equaliser in the 1–1 draw against Azam FC, a goal that rescued a valuable point for his team. His fifth goal came in another 1–1 draw, this time against Mashujaa FC.

His performances have not gone unnoticed. Both Simba SC and Young Africans SC (Yanga) are reportedly monitoring the striker ahead of the upcoming January transfer window, with speculation already growing about a potential move for the in-form forward. Additionally, Kasunda’s promising start to the season has earned him a call up to the Tanzania national team’s provisional squad for the 2026 AFCON qualifiers, a milestone that further highlights his rise.

Just behind Kasunda in the scoring charts is his teammate Saleh Karabaka, who has also impressed with three goals. The presence of two JKT Tanzania players in the top scorer’s race reflects the team’s improved attacking efficiency this season.

Another top contender is Jonathan Sowah of Simba SC, also tied on three goals. Sowah, who joined Simba from Singida Black Stars at the start of the season, has made an immediate impact despite playing only four Premier League matches. His goals have helped Simba maintain competitiveness even as the club juggles domestic fixtures with its CAF Champions League commitments. With Simba having scored 11 goals so far, Sowah remains the club’s most reliable goal contributor.

Other players on three goals include Peter Lwasa of Pamba Jiji and Fabrice Ngoy of Namungo FC, both of whom have been influential for their respective sides.

A group of key attackers are close behind with two goals each, including Feisal Salum of Azam FC, and Max Nzengeli and Andy Boyeli of Young Africans. With plenty of matches still to be played, these forwards remain firmly in contention to climb up the scoring ladder in the coming weeks.

While the race for the Golden Boot is tight, the battle for the league’s top assist provider is also heating up. Andrew Raymond Chamungu of Namungo FC currently leads with three assists, matching the tally of Ellie Mpanzu of Simba SC, whose creativity has been crucial in Simba’s attacking play.

Also featuring in the top assist chart is Ibrahim Imoro of Mtibwa Sugar, who has recorded two assists, as well as Pacome Zouzoua of Young Africans, who has been instrumental in the team’s strong offensive output. Yiung Africans have scored 11 goals in just five matches, and Zouzoua’s influence in the final third has been vital in maintaining the team’s attacking rhythm.

The race for clean sheets has also been fiercely competitive, with Mashujaa FC goalkeeper Eric Johora currently leading the standings. Johora has kept an impressive six clean sheets, showcasing outstanding consistency and playing a pivotal role in Mashujaa’s defensive stability. His clean sheets came against Dodoma Jiji (0–0), Coastal Union (0–0), Namungo FC (1–0), Mbeya City (1–0), TRA United (0–0), and Mtibwa Sugar (1–0).

Several goalkeepers are close behind, including Omary Gonzo of JKT Tanzania and Constantine Malimi of Mtibwa Sugar, both with four clean sheets. Jean Noel of TRA United and Djigui Diarra of Young Africans have each kept three clean sheets, while Yakoub Suleiman of Simba SC has recorded two.

With only 10 rounds played, the competition for the Golden Boot, assists, and clean sheets is wide open. The early season performances suggest that this could be one of the most competitive seasons in recent years, with young talents emerging, established stars responding, and top clubs battling for dominance.
