SIMBA Sports Club are on the verge of renewing the contract of their first-choice goalkeeper, Moussa Camara, following weeks of speculation and uncertainty regarding his future at the club.

Sources within the club have revealed that the Guinean shot-stopper (pictured) is expected to finalize a new deal that will see him continue with the Msimbazi Street giants ahead of the 2025/2026 season.

Camara, who joined Simba at the beginning of the 2024/2025 campaign, quickly established himself as the team’s number one under head coach Fadlu Davids.

Since his arrival, Camara has kept the likes of Ally Salim, Hussein Abel, and seasoned goalkeeper Aishi Manula on the bench. Ayoub Lakred, another goalkeeper on the team last season, has already departed.

Despite his impressive performances throughout the season, there was initial hesitation regarding Camara’s renewal, prompting Simba to explore options for a new goalkeeper.

Among the names reportedly considered were Issa Fofana of Sudanese side Al Hilal, who still has two years left on his current deal, and Drissa Bamba from Stade d'Abidjan in Ivory Coast.

However, the club has now decided to place their trust in Camara, with internal discussions concluding that his weaknesses can be addressed through focused coaching and training.

“The coach made it clear that he wants Camara to stay. The contract is ready and he will sign it in the next two days. It could be a one-year deal with an option for extension, or a straight two-year contract.

“Everything is in place. The technical bench believes that while Camara has some areas to improve, they are confident he will continue to grow and become even more dependable,” a source was quoted as saying.

Camara’s current contract is set to expire on July 30, 2025, but Simba are keen to finalize his renewal before that date. According to the same source, both parties have reached an agreement and the club is now waiting for Camara to return to Tanzania and sign the new contract.

While Camara has faced criticism for a few errors during domestic matches, his overall performance - particularly in continental competitions - has earned him the trust of the coaching staff and fans alike.

One of his most memorable performances came during the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal clash against Egyptian side Al Masry.

In that dramatic fixture, Camara emerged as the hero, saving two penalties to help Simba win the shootout and advance to the semifinals. His saves proved decisive in a campaign that eventually saw Simba reach the final of the tournament, where they narrowly lost to Moroccan club RS Berkane.

Beyond the continental stage, Camara was also a dominant force in the 2024/2025 Mainland Premier League season. He led the league in clean sheets, keeping 19 in 28 matches while conceding only 13 goals across 2,520 minutes of action. These numbers reflect both his consistency and importance to the team’s defensive structure.

Simba’s decision to retain Camara comes at a crucial time as the club looks to stabilize its squad ahead of the new season, which will feature another demanding campaign in both domestic and international competitions.

Camara’s potential renewal also signals a shift in Simba’s transfer policy for the goalkeeping department. By retaining the services of a proven performer rather than investing in a new and potentially costly foreign goalkeeper, the club may redirect its focus and resources toward strengthening other positions on the pitch.
