THE Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Elections Committee has confirmed that Wallace Karia is the sole eligible candidate for the federation’s presidency in the upcoming general elections.
Announcing the eligibility report, Kiomoni Kibamba, chairperson of the TFF Elections Committee, stated that Karia was the only candidate who successfully met all the required criteria.
He noted that while the process remains open for appeals, no other candidate currently qualifies to challenge Karia.
“For the presidential position, there were six candidates. One did not show up for eligibility verification, and four others did not meet the legal requirements. Only one candidate met all the conditions - Wallace Karia,” said Kibamba.
The five other individuals who collected nomination forms for the presidency were Richard Shija, Mshindo Msolwa, Ally Mayai, Mustapha Himba, and Ally Thabit Mbingo.
The candidate screening process was to be conducted between July 3 and July 5, 2025, during which the preliminary screening results were to be announced and posted.
Kibamba emphasized that any disqualified candidates who believe they were unfairly treated have the right to file appeals.
“We are an election committee, and as human beings, we may make errors. Anyone who feels aggrieved has right to appeal to the Election Appeals Committee. If any appeal is successful and a name is returned to us, we will proceed accordingly,” he said.
In addition to the presidential position, Kibamba noted that 19 candidates applied for positions on the TFF Executive Committee. Of those, 17 appeared for eligibility verification, and 10 met the necessary requirements and were cleared to advance to the next stage.
The appeal period will run from July 6 to July 8, during which the Appeals Committee will receive, review, and issue rulings on any submitted appeals.
Following this, the Elections Committee will receive the final list of approved candidates from the Appeals Committee and move forward with the remaining stages of the electoral process.
The elections are scheduled to be held on August 16.
