PROFESSIONAL golfer Fadhil Nkya cemented his status as the country’s top player after securing 6.8m/- in prize money at the fourth round of the prestigious Lina PG Tour, held at the Morogoro Gymkhana Club.

The victory marked Nkya’s fifth consecutive win in local tournaments, further establishing his dominance on the national stage. In the professional (Mapro) category, Rajab Iddy finished second to claim 4.3m/-, while Hassan Kadio and Nuru Mollel secured third and fourth places respectively.

In the Elite Amateur field, Isiaka Dunia emerged champion, pocketing 2.2m/-. The Wanyeche family also made a strong showing, with Enoshi Wanyeche taking second place (1.3m/-) and Hawa Wanyeche finishing third (900,000/-).

The Morogoro event served as a crucial stop in the five-round tour, which was established to honor the legacy of the late Lina Nkya, a trailblazer and mentor in Tanzanian women’s golf.

“We had a great turnout and successfully concluded this round,” said Enock Magile, one of the tour’s organizers. “We now look forward to the fifth and final round, which, if there are no changes, will be held in November at the Kili Golf Course in Arusha.”

Magile emphasized the high stakes of the finale, noting that the overall winner will earn the coveted opportunity to represent Tanzania at an international tournament in Dubai next year.

Nkya credited his continued success to rigorous practice and exposure from international competitions. “This game can be won by anyone, but my experience playing abroad has helped me maintain strong performances locally,” he said.

He further called for greater investment in the sport and more local tournaments to provide Tanzanian golfers with the experience needed to elevate the country’s presence on the global stage.
