TANZANIAN golfer Fadhili Nkya has once again stamped his authority on the national golf scene by winning the professional category of the Lina PG Tour 2025, marking his sixth consecutive victory in the annual tournament held in memory of the late women’s national team player Lina Nkya.

The tournament, now in its fourth edition, brought together more than 150 players at Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam between July 17 and 20, further signaling its growing status as a platform for both competition and talent development in Tanzanian golf.

Nkya attributed his continued success to consistent training and discipline, stating: “I have remained committed to daily practice and self-improvement. That has made all the difference."

The Lina PG Tour has evolved from a memorial event into a recognised competition that now includes professionals, elite amateurs, and supporting categories - a move organisers say is designed to broaden participation and identify new talent.

Said Nkya, the tournament chairperson and a member of the Nkya family, said the expansion reflects lessons learned from previous editions.

“We have seen real growth over the past three years. This year we introduced junior and supporting categories to offer a space for rising players,” he noted.

Building on this, Said Nkya announced the launch of a new initiative, the ‘Lina Junior Tour’ - targeting children and young people. Three junior tournaments will be introduced each year, with top performers advancing to future Lina PG Tour events.

While the competition celebrated Fadhili Nkya’s repeat victory, other players also performed strongly: Abdallah Yusuph secured second place in the professional category with 4.3m/-, Nuru Mollel finished third with 3.4m/-.

In the elite category for amateur players, Prosper Emmanuel won 2.2m/-, Julius Mwinzani and Gabriel Abel shared second place with 1.1m/- each.

Major Japhet Masai, captain of host club TPDF Lugalo commended the tournament’s organisation and turnout.

“This was the first time the Lina PG Tour was hosted at Lugalo. It was professionally run and attracted many players. We look forward to seeing it grow further,” said Major Masai.
