The Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, has applauded Monti International School for being a model of modern education in the country. He assured that the government will continue creating an enabling environment for investors in the education sector to enhance learning opportunities and inspire students to acquire diverse knowledge and skills — including foreign languages — that will prepare them for future employment.
Chalamila’s message was delivered over the weekend by Kinondoni Municipal Secondary Education Officer, Mtundi Nyamhanga, who represented him during the launch of the Monti International School Transformation Program, which follows the Cambridge International Curriculum.
Nyamhanga noted that the government encourages private investors to establish schools to support national efforts in expanding access to quality education. He emphasized that knowledge and skills are invaluable, and therefore, anyone with the capacity to open a school — whether primary or secondary — is welcome to contribute to the country’s education development.
He commended Monti International School for setting an example through its inclusive education approach that integrates academic excellence, sports, creativity, and innovation.
“Monti provides students with a strong academic foundation while nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and global awareness,” he said.
“At the same time, through its investment in sports infrastructure — from the swimming pool and football pitch to multipurpose courts — the school instills discipline, teamwork, and resilience, preparing young people not only to win in sports but also to succeed in life.”
Nyamhanga further noted that the school’s transformation represents more than just physical expansion; it reflects a vision of what can be achieved through commitment, leadership, and belief in education.
“These transformations are not just about numbers,” he added. “They are a tangible example of what determination and strong leadership can accomplish. Fatma, your story is a reminder that great things begin with small steps.”
Speaking during the event, Fatma Fernandes, the Founder and Head of Monti International School, announced that as part of the transformation plan, the school will expand to a new Madale Campus in 2026, which will begin offering secondary education.
“This marks an important milestone,” Fernandes said. “It extends our educational journey from early childhood through to secondary level — right here in Dar es Salaam — following the Cambridge curriculum. We are building not just a school, but a legacy; one that gives every child the opportunity to grow, lead, and inspire.”
She explained that with over 150 students currently enrolled, the school’s transformation plan focuses on three key pillars: Cambridge-based learning, sports excellence, and creativity and innovation.
One of the parents attending the launch, Thuwein Makamba, praised the school’s approach to education, describing it as exceptional and life-changing.
“The education provided here is a unique gift,” Makamba said. “As modern parents, we must realize that the best inheritance for our children is education — not buildings, farms, or other property. Those can be los
