EXCITEMENT mounts among youth and residents in Geita Region as they express readiness to turn out in large numbers to vote in the upcoming general elections on October 29, while praising CCM presidential candidate Samia Suluhu Hassan for transforming the region’s agricultural and economic fortunes.

At Nyawilimilwa Ward in Geita District, young people and small-scale farmers today said they have seen tangible progress in their lives under Samia’s leadership—from improved access to subsidised fertiliser to expanded irrigation projects and agricultural support services that have boosted production and family income.

“I am well prepared and ready to vote on October 29 because I have seen real changes in our community,” said Bernadeta Shija, a resident of Nyawilimilwa as she waited for the CCM presidential candidate Samia Suluhu Hassan to address a rally in the area.

She said: “Through subsidised fertiliser and better seeds, my family can now produce enough rice, maize, cassava and beans not only for food but also for selling. Our income has grown, and we can meet basic needs comfortably.”

Faustine Maira, a smallholder farmer in the same village, said Samia’s agricultural policies have brought new hope. “In the past, farming was difficult and expensive. Now, with government support, we cultivate throughout the year and earn more. We truly feel the difference,” he said.

Frank Sylvester, head of the Bodaboda riders association in Nyawilimilwa, said youth in the area are determined to participate actively in the election.

“We will wake up early in the morning to cast our votes. The President has shown commitment to youth empowerment and job creation, she has cut unnecessary fines to us motorists. We want to give her our full support,” he stressed.

Similarly, Cosmas Galusi, another resident, noted that the government’s youth initiatives have reduced unemployment and transformed lives.

“Many young people once spent their days wandering without direction, but today they have opportunities in agriculture, transport and small enterprises. Samia has truly lifted the youth,” he said.

Residents in the region say the government’s continued investment in rural infrastructure, subsidised inputs and empowerment programmes has made the region a model for agricultural transformation, and they are ready to show their appreciation through the ballot.
