THE Kisutu Resident Magistrate Court is scheduled to deliver a ruling online on April 28, 2025, regarding the objections raised by the defense lawyers in the sedition case facing CHADEMA National Chairman, Tundu Lissu.

The case was heard today via video link before Senior Resident Magistrate Godfrey Mhini, where the prosecution, led by Senior State Attorney Job Mrema, stated that the session had been convened for Lissu to be read the Preliminary Hearing (PH) facts.

However, when the prosecution, through Attorney Mrema, inquired why the accused, Lissu, was not visible online, Magistrate Mhini asked a prison officer to respond.

The officer stated that Lissu had refused to be read the Preliminary Hearing facts via video link. Magistrate Mhini then allowed the case to proceed without Lissu being visible.

In the case, Lissu is being represented by a team of 31 lawyers led by Advocate Mpale Mpoki, who was joined by Alute Mugwai, Peter Kibatala, and Jeremiah Ntobesya in presenting objections.

One of the key arguments in their objections is opposition to the case being conducted virtually. They demanded that the accused be brought physically to court, arguing that for the Preliminary Hearing (PH) to proceed, the prosecution, defense, and accused must all be present in court, and that the accused must physically sign the PH document.
