DRUG Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) has issued a stern warning to individuals still engaging in drug trafficking, saying no one involved in the illegal trade will be spared.
The authority stated that operations to identify and apprehend drug dealers are ongoing day and night, and all culprits will be brought to justice.
Speaking at the 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), commonly known as Sabasaba, DCEA Commissioner General Aretas Lyimo emphasized that anyone who disobeys government directives will face legal consequences, and arrests will continue until all offenders are prosecuted.
He further warned that those who promote, glorify, or encourage drug use through clothing, music, or any other means will also face legal action.
“Under the law, particularly Section 24, anyone found promoting drug use is treated just like other offenders,” Lyimo explained.
He urged Tanzanians to abandon drug use, production, and distribution, and appealed to parents to protect their children from falling into drug abuse or trafficking.
Regarding the current situation in the country, Commissioner General Lyimo said it is improving significantly, thanks to ongoing joint operations between DCEA and security forces.
Highlighting the authority’s participation in the exhibition, he noted that the aim is to educate the public on the types of illicit drugs and the laws prohibiting them.
“We are now running a special campaign to educate primary, secondary, and university students, while also conducting targeted operations to arrest those still involved in the production and distribution of drugs,” he said.
“Our goal is to completely eliminate the drug problem in the country in a short time and ensure the public is well informed about the dangers of drug abuse.
