In commemoration of the 83th birthday anniversary of its founder, the late Dr Reginald Mengi, IPP Media Group has distributed free copies of his book titled “I CAN, IMUST, I WIL: The Spirit of Success” to 249 Tanzanians across 23 regions.
Joyce Mhavile, the ITV/Radio One managing director, handed copies of book to the first 100 recipients yesterday at East Africa Television (EATV) premises within the Mikocheni area, with remaining winners receiving their copies in respective regions.
The initiative launched on May 29, part of commemorating Dr Mengi’s exceptional legacy in establishing strong media houses in both the print and broadcasting media, where the books were handed over to winners in a contest organised for the occasion
One of the winners, Salha Said, said she always wished to get the book. “I've been following it since its release. I saw an opportunity on TV to get this book, and I jumped at it.
“I look forward to reading and understanding it, and following what's written because I am one of those people with big dreams, aiming to become a significant person and leave a mark."
She further stated that Dr Mengi is a great example for many people. His path was difficult, but because of that, she believes that anything is possible with effort, planning, and fulfilling dreams.
Another winner, Emanuel Peter, said he likes watching the news on ITV, so he saw the advertisement and participated.
"I think it was on the late Dr Reginald Mengi's birthday. They announced that viewers could get a chance to win this book... I'm a book lover and believe a lot of knowledge is hidden in books, so I'll benefit greatly," he said.
Hilda Ngaja, another winner of the competition, said her desire to win was immense. She aimed to get the prize for her children and is happy that her goal was achieved as she believes there are good things to learn from it.
Other regions with listed competition winners are Dodoma (15), Mbeya (11), Morogoro (10), Mwanza (14), Iringa (7), Tanga (8), Arusha (25) and Manyara (1).
Yet others are Kilimanjaro (17), Njombe (5), Singida (1), Songwe (3) and Tabora (5), along with Geita (1), Kagera (5), Katavi (1), Kigoma (5), Mara (2), Coast (2), Rukwa (1) and Ruvuma (4).There were also five winners in Zanzibar.
The competition offered viewers of ITV, EATV and Capital TV an opportunity to compete for a copy of the book written by Dr Mengi.
Initially, the prize was planned for the first 83 participants who would scan the QR code appearing on TV when the advertisement was shown. However, the number of participants was so large that the management had to increase the number of winners to 248. The competition required participants to quickly scan the QR code, click the link, and then follow the instructions provided. Each participant received one copy of the book, the director noted.
