The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), in collaboration with the Zanzibar Bureau of Standards (ZBS), is hosting the 72nd General Assembly and Council Meetings of the African Regional Organization for Standardization (ARSO), taking place in Zanzibar from June 23 to 28 this year.

In a statement released today, Alfred Mapunda, Managing Director of SICPA Tanzania, said the prestigious event brings together key stakeholders, sector leaders, and decision-makers from across Africa to discuss and shape the future of standards on the continent.

"At this event, TBS has invited various stakeholders along with its commercial partner, SICPA Tanzania, to demonstrate their shared commitment to promoting industrial growth, trade, and consumer protection, while also showcasing the Tanzanian Government’s efforts in safeguarding tax revenues and ensuring the quality and standards of goods," said Mapunda.

He added that SICPA Tanzania is collaborating with TBS to enhance standards, safety, and traceability through the use of innovative and modern technologies. With over 150 Tanzanian employees, SICPA Tanzania partners with TBS in the implementation of the Fuel Integrity Solution to ensure fuel quality, protect tax revenues, and reduce fraud.

He noted that the company also supports the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in achieving its revenue collection goals, enhancing compliance in the private sector, and combating illicit trade through the Electronic Tax Stamp (ETS) system.

He emphasized that as a technology leader, SICPA and its authentication solutions empower governments to protect products that must meet specific quality and safety standards, detect counterfeit and substandard goods, raise consumer awareness, and build public trust in government standards and markings.

He further added that these solutions help reduce unfair competition, boost competitiveness among legitimate producers and importers, improve regulatory oversight by local authorities in the marketplace, and ensure product safety and authenticity through supply chain traceability.

“We are proud to partner with TBS at ARSO 2025 and to present SICPA Tanzania’s solutions to all standards offices across Africa, in the presence of the Second Vice President of Zanzibar, Hon. Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, as well as top regional leaders and stakeholders in the standards sector. We are honored to support authorities in achieving their broader goals and to empower and protect Tanzanian consumers through advanced security and product tracking innovations,” said Mapunda.
