CCM presidential running mate Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi has called on Tanzanians to uphold the legacy of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, describing it as the cornerstone of the nation's unity and development.
Addressing a campaign rally in Mkalama District on—coinciding with the national memorial of Tanzania’s founding father—Dr. Nchimbi emphasized that Nyerere’s values of peace, self-reliance, and unity must remain central to the country’s progress.
“This is a significant day for our nation,” he said. “The legacy of Mwalimu Nyerere is not just part of our history—it is the foundation of our national identity and development.”
The event marked Dr. Nchimbi’s first campaign stop in Singida Region. He warmly acknowledged the turnout and expressed personal gratitude, highlighting his own connection to the area, where he once attended Utemini Primary School in Singida Town.
“This region holds a special place in my heart. It’s where I began learning leadership through our party,” he told supporters.
Dr. Nchimbi also conveyed greetings from President Samia Suluhu Hassan, thanking residents of Mkalama and Iramba for the warm reception given during her recent visit to the region.
“She asked me to express her love and solidarity with you, and to thank you on her behalf for your continued support of the government’s development efforts,” he said.
Dr. Nchimbi used the opportunity to reflect on the enduring relevance of Nyerere’s leadership, from securing independence peacefully to uniting Tanganyika and Zanzibar into one sovereign state.
“He achieved independence without shedding blood and established the values that still guide us today,” Nchimbi said. “We must not reduce our honouring of him to words while abandoning the principles he stood for.”
He reminded citizens that Nyerere’s fight against ignorance, disease, and poverty remains relevant—and that it is the responsibility of both leaders and citizens to continue that mission.
Turning to local issues, Dr. Nchimbi praised the agricultural resilience of Iramba District, where around 80 percent of residents depend on farming.
“Iramba is a shining example of self-reliance. It’s not among the regions dependent on food aid—and this reflects the vision of Mwalimu,” he noted.
He reaffirmed that the current government, under President Samia, is focused on strengthening education, healthcare, and the economy—directly confronting the same challenges Nyerere identified at independence.
Dr. Nchimbi reiterated that CCM remains firmly rooted in the founding principles laid down by Nyerere, with the people's welfare placed at the centre of its policies.
“CCM was not founded to build roads and bridges alone, but to build people. That’s why our legitimacy comes from the results we deliver,” he said.
He concluded by commending the local Member of Parliament for his leadership and proactive mindset, and encouraged citizens to remain hopeful and united.
“Let us not lose heart. The work continues. And with unity, determination, and faith in our nation, we will go even further.”
