NINE people, including four students, have died and 16 others were injured in a head-on collision between a Babuu Trans passenger bus (Tata, registration T129 DVX) and a Fuso cargo truck (T907 EJZ) in Kambi ya Nyasa, Chemba District, Dodoma Region, early this morning.
The accident is reportedly caused by negligence on the part of the truck driver, who veered into the oncoming lane of the bus.
Dodoma Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy after visiting the injured at the Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital.
“Today, we received very sad news of an accident at Kambi ya Nyasa in Chemba where a Tata bus collided head-on with a Fuso truck, resulting in five immediate deaths and 20 injuries,” she said.
Senyamule added. “Tragically, four of the injured succumbed on the way to the hospital, bringing the death toll to nine, with 16 others still receiving treatment.”
Among the 16 hospitalized, nine were admitted to the Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital, and most are reported to be in stable condition.
She extended condolences to the families of the deceased and thanked local officials, including the District Commissioner, police commanders, and health experts, for their swift response in assisting the victims.
