CCM presidential candidate Samia Suluhu Hassan today September 24, 2025, joined in a short prayer and laid a wreath of flowers at the grave of the late Third Phase President, Benjamin William Mkapa.

Before the prayer and the laying of flowers, Samia lit a candle at the grave, located in Lupaso village, Masasi District, Mtwara Region.

On arrival, she proceeded directly to the grave, lit the candle, observed a brief prayer, and then placed the wreath.

The prayer was led by Father Cyril Massawe, Reverend of St Thérèse of the Child Jesus Parish, Lupaso. During the session,  Samia and her delegation prayed for the late Mkapa, who passed away on July 23, 2020.

Father Massawe also prayed for Samia, asking God to continue protecting her as she leads the nation and during this election campaign period.

The presidential candidate was received at the site by members of the Mkapa family, including Nicholas Mkapa, William Erio and Chief Nkonona Mkapa V.

Samia is currently on the campaign trail for the General Election in Mtwara Region.
