Nchimbi wraps up Njombe campaign tour with big promises

CCM Presidential running mate running mate Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, concluded his campaign tour in Njombe Region with a strong pledge to transform Makambako into a regional economic hub.

He promised new infrastructure, fairer tax policies, and improved public services under a CCM-led government.

Addressing hundreds of enthusiastic supporters at the Police Grounds in Makambako, Dr Nchimbi outlined several development projects that the government will undertake if re-elected. Chief among them are the construction of a modern bus terminal and a state-of-the-art market to address long-standing challenges, particularly during the rainy season.

“Makambako is a strategic town that connects Tanzania with several neighbouring countries. We need infrastructure that reflects its importance,” he said.

Dr Nchimbi emphasized that improved infrastructure would not only serve local needs but also boost trade and connectivity with neighbouring countries such as Malawi, Zambia, and Mozambique.

He outlined a comprehensive development plan that includes the construction of two new health centres, three dispensaries, and the upgrading of the district hospital. In education, 241 new classrooms are to be built to enhance learning environments. He also committed to solving the region’s water challenges through major water supply projects.

“We want to completely resolve the water problem in Makambako,” he said.

Acknowledging Makambako’s reputation as a business-driven town, Dr Nchimbi promised that the next government will ensure a more supportive environment for entrepreneurs and traders.

He said the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) will implement reforms to make tax policies more business-friendly and less burdensome for small enterprises.

“Makambako is full of hardworking businesspeople. They deserve a tax system that supports—not stifles—their efforts,” he said.

The rally also spotlighted Daniel Chongolo, CCM’s parliamentary candidate for Makambako and former party Secretary General. Chongolo used the platform to showcase the achievements of President Samia Suluhu Hassan over the past four and a half years and laid out his priorities for Makambako.

He emphasized the need to upgrade strategic roads, including Iringa Road and the Kwa Mgimba–Mlowa Hospital Road, to improve access to healthcare and stimulate trade.

He stressed the need for a modern highway to accommodate regional truck traffic and unlock the town’s full economic potential.

“This town is a gateway to Malawi, Zambia, South Africa, and more. We must build a modern highway to unlock its full potential,” said Chongolo.

He also praised the government’s move to allocate 100 acres of land for a local branch of Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial College, saying the project will spur educational growth and local development.

Outgoing MP and regional CCM Chair Deo Sanga, widely known as Jah People, publicly endorsed Chongolo. Sanga had lost to Chongolo in the internal nomination process but said he would campaign wholeheartedly for him.

“Now everything is settled. His new name is Daniel Jah People Chongolo,” he said, revealing that he even paid for Chongolo’s nomination form.

Salum Asas, CCM’s Southern Highlands campaign coordinator, called the moment “historic,” noting the rare sight of two former CCM Secretaries General—Dr Nchimbi and Chongolo—sharing the same platform.

“It shows unity, strength, and the continuity of leadership within CCM,” he said.

Locals welcomed the promises, but with cautious optimism. Many expressed hope that the pledges would become reality.

Julius Kibiki, a trader from Mangole, said:

“If the market and bus stand are truly built, it will be a big relief. But they must keep their word.”

David Mbwilo, another resident, added:

“Modern facilities will raise the town’s status and attract more investment.”

Senior CCM figures echoed the party’s campaign slogan, “Work and Humanity.”

Among them was Pastor Peter Msigwa, a former Iringa MP and ex-Chadema NEC member, who praised President Samia for upholding Mwalimu Nyerere’s vision of fighting ignorance, poverty, and disease.

“When President Samia builds health centres, brings water, and adds classrooms, that is work and humanity in action,” he said.

Hemed Chale, a CCM NEC member from Ruvuma, lauded recent efforts to reduce the domestic burden on women by improving water access. Leonard Qwihaya urged voters to mobilise widely, saying:

“Let’s ensure everyone votes—CCM member or not.”

Dr Nchimbi concluded the rally by urging residents to turn out in large numbers on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, to vote for the CCM presidential candidate, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, as well as Daniel Jah People Chongolo and all CCM councillors.

“We have the plans. We have the leadership. Now we ask for your mandate,” he declared.
