LEADING presidential candidate, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has pledged to implement a series of transformative infrastructure and social development projects across Kagera Region if re-elected, aiming to ease transportation, enhance livelihoods, and strengthen the local economy.
Addressing residents during her campaign rallies in the region, Samia said her government plans to construct nine water projects, improve road networks, and complete the Kitengule Bridge, a key link connecting Missenyi, Karagwe and Ngara districts.
The bridge, which spans 140 metres with an adjoining 18-kilometre connecting road, will be completed at a cost of 31.5bn/-.
Samia said the project would bring multiple benefits, including easing transport for sugarcane farmers who previously walked 140 kilometres from farms to factories — a distance that will now be reduced to just 14 kilometres.
She also pledged to complete the construction of the Buyango Vocational Training College and build a modern marketplace to support youth and small-scale entrepreneurs.
Additionally, her government will distribute two million coffee seedlings and 500,000 avocado seedlings to boost agricultural production and household income in the region.
Samia further promised to dispatch relevant ministers to address ongoing land disputes between communities and the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS), as well as those arising in the Kagera River Basin conservation area.
“Anyone attempting to hold demonstrations on that date will face firm action. Our security organs are working professionally and in full coordination to ensure that peace continues to prevail,” Bashungwa said during a rally held in Karagwe Constituency, where he is also vying for a parliamentary seat.He urged the youth to reject calls for unrest and instead rally behind Samia’s re-election bid, saying the CCM election manifesto is rich with development commitments that promise progress for all Tanzanians.
Dotto Bahemu, Ngara parliamentary aspirant expressed appreciation to Samia for the extensive development projects implemented under her leadership. He said the district has benefited from 80bn/- in investments for key initiatives, including the construction of a new district hospital, three health centres costing 3bn/- and an increase in dispensaries from 45 to 50 over the past four years.
Bahemu also highlighted progress in the education sector, noting that six new secondary schools and seven primary schools have been built. In addition, several water projects have been executed, significantly reducing shortages across communities.
He added that the government has approved 41bn/- for a new mega water supply project to further improve access to clean water in Ngara.
He further urged the government to prioritise road construction and establish reliable markets for avocado farmers to strengthen agricultural trade and boost the local economy.
