The Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Kassim Majaliwa, said Tanzania is ranked fourth in Africa on air safety matters according to the World Transportation (ICAO).
"Due to various government's efforts to strengthen the aviation sector in Tanzania it has been named by the ICAO to take fourth place in Africa on air safety issues," he said.
He said that the vision of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has enabled Tanzania, to make significant progress in various sectors including air.
He said this on April 28, 2025 in Arusha, when he opened the 73rd meeting of the International Airports Council for the African Region (ACI Africa).
Prime Minister Majaliwa, said that one of the areas that President Samia has continued to manage is the construction and renovation of airports in the country including the construction of the new Msalato airport located in Dodoma.
He also said President Samia is continuing with the improvement of other strategic airports of Kilimanjaro, Unguja, Pemba, Mwanza, Kigoma, Tabora, Shinyanga and Sumbawanga. "We are also developing the Serengeti International Airport aimed at promoting environmental tourism while preserving the Serengeti ecology".
In addition, Prime Minister Majali, said the government has invested in the purchase of modern communications equipment at airports and long distances to ensure the safety of airlines and passengers.
He also said Julius Nyerere International Airport has won the World Airport Security Award, in the airports with 50000 airports a year ”
Regarding the Tanzania Airlines (ATCL) the Prime Minister, said his airlines are currently providing travel services in 15 domestic and foreign airports in Dubai, Mumbai, Guangzhou, Johannesburg, Nairobi, Harare, Lusaka, Entebe and Kinshasa
"The organization also hopes to talk about its travels in the cities of London, Lagos, Accra, Juba, Muscat and other strategic markets to connect Tanzania regional and international"
The Minister of Transport, Professor Makame Mbarawa, said that the meeting, provides a rare platform that brings together leaders and airline managers, airport operators to discuss and exchange ideas in improving and promoting the air travel industry.
The president of the African Airports Council, Emmanuel Chaves, said that the success of the African aviation industry is not only in policy composition but on the decisions we make now in collaboration "If we decide sincerely we will build a coalition and competitive Africa in the aviation sector"
