AS part of efforts to achieve the desired development Vision 2050, the government, development partners and non-state actors yesterday held technical strategic dialogue ahead of the high level talks next week.
Speaking while officiating at the opening of the meeting in Dodoma, Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office (Finance and Planning)- Zanzibar, Dr Juma Malik Akili, said the event brought together stakeholders to reflect on what has been achieved during the year in terms of the targets agreed previously.
It also involved sharing experiences, challenges encountered, and provide the way forward for next year and the future.
“This event takes place at the right moment while the government is finalising Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050 to reflect the country’s aspirations for the next 25 years.” he said.
He noted that through dialogue, all stakeholders would share knowledge, experience, expertise and working together towards a common goal.
“The modality of this engagement is well stipulated in our development cooperation framework of which I would like to take advantage of this meeting to inform you that the revised Development Cooperation Framework (DCF) (2027/18 – 2029/30) was endorsed in December 2024”, he added.
He said the revised version had introduced general guiding principles for development cooperation without distorting the existing underlying principles as agreed by the government in various High-Level Forums (HLFs); Aid Effectiveness and the Global Partnership and High-Level Meetings (HLMs) for effective development cooperation.
He explained that the revised version had introduced sector budget support and climate finance as new financing instruments and arrangements.
“I wish to call upon all stakeholders present here today to familiarise with the DCF for effective implementation of the revised framework,” he said.
United Nation Resident Coordinator Susan Ngongi-Namondo acknowledged Tanzania's development progress in health outcomes, infrastructure development and the robust policy framework.
She said her office also importantly celebrates the role that Tanzania has been playing in shaping regional progress as it hosts very important development conferences and summits.
“And today we want to reaffirm our collective commitment to partnership and dialogue which, of course, evolved to meet the three different aspects of Tanzania's development agenda” she said
She observed that the macro economy, inclusive growth, and climate resilience as well as energy themes are broadly consistent with the themes of last year, but they were still very relevant for this year's conversation.
On the macroeconomic situation, she said it is recognisable that Tanzania's economic resilience over the past decades, with historic annual growth rates surpassed regional averages.
According to her, Tanzania's success in prudent macroeconomic management which laid a strong foundation for future progress, noting the ambitious targets of Vision 2050 aims at transforming Tanzania into an industrialised middle-income country.
