CHAMWINO Girls cricket squad has wrapped up the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) trials for the 2025 National Inter-Primary Schools competitions (Umitashumta) thrillingly, winning two outings in Dodoma recently.
The Dodoma Jiji ground, as stated by a TCA officer, hosted the trials coordinated by the association for selecting junior cricketers set to represent Dodoma in the Umitashumta showdown at the national level in Iringa this month.
Chamwino Girls opened their campaign solidly, having clobbered Dodoma Girls by 35 runs.
The Melea Jonas-led Chamwino Girls took the crease first and scored 106/8 in 20 overs.
It was hardly a complete batting dominance, considering a good number of Chamwino Girls batters experienced short spells at the crease.
The most solid performance eventually came from Esnath Lameck, with the cricketer posting 13 runs at a 50.00 strike rate.
She was, at the end of it all, the sole cricketer with a showing worth writing home about, with Chamwino Girls having been forced to bank on extra runs given away by Dodoma Girls.
The batting squad's figure was boosted by 50 extras conceded by Dodoma Girls.
Tekla Daniel notched 2-10, Mary Riziki racked up 2-20, whereas Khuzaima Makame ended up garnering 2-22 as Dodoma Girls battled to limit Chamwino Girls' figure to a manageable total.
Needing 107 runs from 20 overs to come out victorious, Dodoma Girls lost steam when they took the crease, managing to score 71/4 in 20 overs.
Almera Baku - one of the openers - turned out to be the sole cricketer boasting a better score for Dodoma Girls, garnering 19 runs.
None of the rest of Dodoma Girls batting unit members had the determination, which could have propelled them to a successful chase, facing dismissal in quick succession.
Forty-two extras conceded by Chamwino Girls at the end of it all saw Dodoma Girls notch a respectable score.
Lydia Sumuch's 2-11, which had the bowler ending up with a 2.75 economy rate, was ultimately the most noticeable contribution for Chamwino Girls.
Chamwino Girls later garnered a hard-fought three-run victory over Kongwa Girls.
Having garnered the chance to bat first, Chamwino Girls posted 63/4 in 10 overs.
Even though Kongwa Girls battled zealously, seeking to mount a successful chase, the junior cricketers eventually could not live up to expectations, ending up garnering 60/6 in 10 overs.
The day moreover had Dodoma Girls hammering
Kongwa Girls by 10 wickets.
Kongwa Girls had a woeful outing at the crease, once they got the opportunity to start batting, posting just 24/10 in 11 overs.
Chasing an easy target, Dodoma Girls could not waste time, scoring 27/0 in just 4.4 overs.
Junior players from three districts, Dodoma Jiji, Chamwino, and Kongwa battled it out in the tournament.
The showdown targeted to identify the top-performing boys and girls from each district to form the strongest possible team that will proudly represent Dodoma at the 2025 Umitashumta Games in Iringa in June.
Over two days of high-spirited cricket, the matches were packed with intense competition, impressive teamwork, and moments of individual brilliance.
Each match was, the TCA officer stated, a testament to the rapid development of youth cricket in Dodoma.
The officer added that with performances in hand, selectors will finalize the regional squads for both boys and girls.
The association, the TCA officer disclosed, offered special appreciation to the Education Officer, school teachers, coaches, scorers, and the dedicated ground staff for making the event smooth and successful.
