DESPITE widespread speculation, the final of the Federation Cup between Young Africans (Yanga) and Singida Black Stars has not been confirmed to return to Zanzibar, according to Mohamed Kabwanga, the Information Officer for the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF).

Reports have suggested that the match could once again be held at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, which hosted last season’s final where Young Africans successfully defended their title against Azam FC via a dramatic penalty shootout. However, Kabwanga (pictured) clarified that no official decision has been made and the match date remains undetermined.

“We are indeed hearing these reports - they are widely circulating - but we will officially inform you once a decision is made,” Kabwanga stated. Sources within the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) have revealed that only two venues are under consideration: CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza and Amaan Complex in Zanzibar. However, it is understood that Kirumba Stadium did not meet inspection standards, making Amaan Complex the more likely option.

Adding weight to the speculation, executives from CRDB Bank - the main sponsors of the tournament - are reportedly in favour of hosting the final in Zanzibar.Young Africans booked their place in the final with a 2-0 win over JKT Tanzania in the semi-finals, while Singida Black Stars stunned Simba SC with a 3-1 victory to earn their maiden Federation Cup final appearance.

The final is expected to be a captivating encounter between two sides with contrasting histories in the tournament. While Young Africans enter the match as defending champions and heavy favourites, Singida Black Stars are riding a wave of confidence after securing their first-ever win over Simba.

In league play, Young Africans have had the upper hand over Singida Black Stars, winning both encounters this season - 1-0 in the first round and 2-1 in the second. Nevertheless, Singida Black Stars are determined to defy the odds and cap their impressive campaign with silverware. The venue for the Federation Cup final is expected to be announced after the conclusion of the Mainland Premier League season.
