THE President of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has awarded Young Africans (Yanga) a sum of Tsh 100m in recognition of the club's outstanding achievements during the 2024/2025 season.
President Mwinyi made the announcement yesterday when he met with Young Africans’ officials and players at State House, where they had gone to present the five trophies they won in various competitions this season.
In his remarks, President Mwinyi congratulated the historic club on its major accomplishments, stating that such success brings pride and contributes significantly to the history and reputation of sports in the country.
He also thanked Young Africans for continuing to promote Zanzibar both domestically and internationally through the “Visit Zanzibar” campaign.
He noted that the club's decision to host some of its matches in Zanzibar has positively impacted the local economy and boosted the tourism sector by increasing the number of visitors and offering various opportunities for citizens.
Furthermore, President Mwinyi affirmed that the government will continue to upgrade sports facilities to allow more competitions to be hosted in Zanzibar.
On behalf of the club, Young Africans president and chairman of African Football Clubs, Engineer Hersi Said Ali, presented President Mwinyi with a special Federation Cup medal and the official championship jersey of the Tanzania Mainland Premier League (NBC Premier League).
He also extended appreciation and gratitude to President Dr. Mwinyi for his efforts to improve sports infrastructure in the country and pledged that the club will continue to play matches in the Isles.
This season, Young Africans managed to secure the following trophies: NBC Community Shield; Toyota Championship Cup; Union Cup; Tanzania Mainland Premier League Trophy and Federation Cup.
