THE Deputy Permanent Secretary for Treasury Services in the Ministry of Finance, Jenifa Omolo, has urged employees of the Department of the Internal Auditor General to continue working with integrity, professionalism, and commitment, noting that their role is critical in bridging public finance management and national development goals.

Speaking yesterday while opening the department’s staff meeting in Arusha, Omolo said internal auditors are not just evaluators of financial records but serve as key advisors in institutional governance and operational efficiency.

“The progress we are witnessing in managing public funds and ensuring value for money in development projects reflects the commendable work of internal auditors. These efforts should be intensified to ensure our country continues to move forward,” she said.

Omolo emphasized the need for proactive strategies to identify financial risks, close loopholes, and offer timely, actionable recommendations. She noted that the government values the contribution of internal auditors and will continue to provide a conducive work environment, including training, tools, and institutional support.

“In an era where the government is emphasizing reforms, anti-corruption efforts, and accountability, your role is more crucial than ever. You are the moral compass, performance monitors, and advisors for strengthening internal systems,” she added.

Auditor General Benjamin Magai, while welcoming the guest of honor, said the meeting aimed to evaluate performance, address challenges, and explore ways to enhance efficiency. He noted that the department had made progress in auditing, technical reviews, and risk management across public institutions.

''In implementing our activities, there are successes that we have achieved including the management of public institutions to see their performance and provide understanding to various institutions on risk management, conducting audits in various institutions, conducting technical and efficiency audits and special audits,'' said Magai.

The meeting brought together staff to share achievements, challenges, and best practices to ensure accountability and effective use of public resources.
