THE MEDIA Centre for Information and Resources Advocacy (MECIRA) has writen to the United States Embassy and Kenyan Embassy in Tanzania for cooperation on individuals residing in respective countries accused of inciting violence in Tanzania.
Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam MECIRA Chairperson Mchange Habibu Mchange said it is unfair for someone accused of instigating unrest to hide outside the country while Tanzanians within the country suffer, lose their lives, and have their property destroyed.
MECIRA called upon the US to return activist Mange Kimambi to the country to face the charges against him, claiming that he has been inciting violence from abroad while all the consequences occur in Tanzania.
He requested that the countries respect Tanzania’s internal sovereignty and refrain from interfering in its domestic affairs.
He emphasised that Tanzania is a sovereign nation capable of managing and regulating its political and social matters independently.
Referring to a video circulating online featuring Mange Kimambi, Mchange said the activist openly admitted that the suspension of his social media accounts and restrictions by Meta had hindered his efforts to incite violence planned for 9 December 2025.
He further noted that the video clearly shows him seeking support from foreign entities to advance what he described as schemes to disrupt peace in Tanzania.
Mchange stressed that, through its embassy in Tanzania, the US government should obtain accurate, truthful, and balanced information about the real situation in the country, so that appropriate action can be taken against any Tanzanian using their freedom abroad to foment unrest at home.
