LEADING presidential candidate Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced plans to construct a new airport in Mugumu, Serengeti District, to enhance connectivity and support the growth of the tourism industry.
Speaking during a campaign rally today in Mugumu, Samia said the project will help attract more visitors to the world-famous Serengeti National Park and promote local economic development.
She urged greater investment in hotel construction and tourism infrastructure, saying the initiative aligns with the government’s goal of attracting eight million tourists by 2030.Samia emphasised that tourism remains a key pillar of Tanzania’s economy and pledged continued efforts to improve roads, utilities and services around major attractions.
She said the government’s focus is on ensuring that tourism benefits reach local residents through job creation and business opportunities.Earlier in Butiama, Samia said the sixth-phase government’s achievements and future plans embody the enduring vision of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, Tanzania’s founding father, whose ideals of unity, self-reliance and people-centred development continue to guide the nation’s progress.
She said her administration remains committed to upholding Nyerere’s principles of freedom, hard work and national unity. She cited major projects such as the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, the relocation of government headquarters to Dodoma, and water supply projects across Kilimanjaro, Tanga and Morogoro as examples of Nyerere’s vision in action.
