PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has inaugurated the ITRACOM Fertilizer Factory in Dodoma’s Nala Industrial Area, marking a major step toward strengthening Tanzania’s agricultural independence and economic resilience.
The launch of the state-of-the-art facility has been widely applauded as a transformative milestone with far-reaching implications for food security, rural development, and industrial self-sufficiency. The event was graced by the President of the Republic of Burundi, Major General (Rtd) Evariste Ndayishimiye, highlighting the project’s significance at both national and regional levels.
Speaking during the launch over the weekend, Adeline Ndesanjo, CEO of Synergy Africa, hailed President Samia’s visionary leadership and commended the Ministry of Agriculture, led by Minister Hussein Bashe, for its role in bringing the ambitious initiative to fruition.
“Today, Tanzanian farmers stand on the threshold of a new era,” Ndesanjo said. “The ITRACOM Fertilizer Factory will enable the local production of high-quality and accessible fertilizers—an essential foundation for agricultural transformation and sustainable growth.”
With an annual production capacity exceeding one million tonnes of organo-mineral fertilizers, the factory is expected to significantly reduce Tanzania’s reliance on imported inputs. This, in turn, will help stabilize supply chains, reduce input costs for farmers, and boost crop productivity across the country’s diverse agricultural zones.
Ndesanjo emphasized the far-reaching impact of the investment, noting that increased yields will directly contribute to improved farmer incomes, rural prosperity, and national food security.
Highlighting the importance of strategic partnerships, Ndesanjo praised CRDB Bank for its financial support in realizing the ITRACOM project. “This success showcases the power of collaborative investment—where financial institutions, private sector innovators, and government leadership unite to drive transformative development,” she said.
Synergy Africa also acknowledged the vital contributions of all stakeholders involved, particularly the Ministry of Agriculture and other public and private partners whose coordination enabled the successful delivery of the project.
The firm encouraged replication of such public-private partnerships to accelerate growth in other critical areas of the agriculture sector, including smart irrigation systems, improved seed technologies, mechanization, and innovative financing models.
“The commissioning of the ITRACOM Fertilizer Factory perfectly exemplifies the synergy needed to propel Tanzania and the region forward,” Ndesanjo concluded. “Under President Samia’s resolute leadership, this is not just the opening of a factory—it is the beginning of a new era of self-reliance and agricultural prosperity for generations to come.”
