In a bold move to address youth unemployment, the Prime Minister's Office (Labour, Youth, Employment, and Persons with Disabilities), in collaboration with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Tanzania, has announced the creation of over 2,000 job opportunities for Tanzanian youths through a new employment partnership.

Speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam, Minister of State Ridhiwani Kikwete emphasized the initiative’s goal of connecting Tanzanian youth with employment opportunities offered by various Chinese companies operating in the country.

"First and foremost, young people need to understand the types of jobs available and seize these opportunities through companies that are ready to hire. The primary aim is to reduce youth unemployment and empower our young people,” said Minister Kikwete.

He added that the ministry encourages widespread youth participation in the initiative, with some interviews to be conducted directly at the University of Dar es Salaam.

The participating Chinese companies operate in sectors such as agriculture, water production, and manufacturing, and are collectively expected to offer more than 2,000 job opportunities.

“We thank the Government of China and the Chinese Ambassador for this unique collaboration, which is helping to address the employment challenges facing our youth,” the minister stated.

Also speaking at the event, the Secretary-General of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Tanzania, Mr. Juma Sharobaro, confirmed that more than 100 Chinese companies are already prepared to offer jobs to Tanzanian youth, with estimated openings ranging between 1,000 and 2,000.

“To be considered for employment, young people should visit the University of Dar es Salaam, where they can meet company representatives, engage with them, and learn more about the available roles,” Sharobaro explained.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to work with both local and international private sectors in combating youth unemployment in Tanzania.
