THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has reduced the Value Added Tax (VAT) for small businesses from 18 percent to 16 percent to encourage revenue collection through electronic payments instead of cash transactions.

TRA Commissioner General, Yusuf Mwenda, stated this yesterday during the launch of a taxpayer education campaign in Dar es Salaam while speaking to traders, stakeholders, and media editors.

He said the decision is significant because it will reduce the cost of purchasing goods for small business owners by two percent, which is a substantial relief.

He  also added that the reduction will be given according to a procedure determining who qualifies to receive it.
