THE High Court in the Mbeya Zone is proceeding with the case filed by Sije Mbigi, the wife of prominent human rights activist and CHADEMA supporter Mpaluka Said Nyagali, popularly known as Mdude.
The case, registered as No. 14538/2025, names the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and five others as respondents.
At the heart of the case, Sije is asking the High Court to compel the respondents—led by the IGP—to either release her husband or present him before a court of law and formally charge him, in accordance with Tanzanian legal procedures.
Mdude was reportedly abducted from his home in the Lwambi neighborhood of Mbeya City on May 2, 2025, by individuals identifying themselves as police officers.
He was allegedly assaulted during the incident and has not been seen or heard from since. Despite widespread concern, the Tanzania Police Force has denied holding him in custody.
The case raises critical questions about enforced disappearances, accountability, and the protection of civil liberties in Tanzania.
It is being closely followed by human rights organizations and political observers across the country.
